I just want to go for a normal run. What do I tap?Tap GO or a quick-start tile, choose Run, and start.

Choose The Run can be a simple run recorder. You do not need to choose a story, book, race, route or companion before you move.

Do this

  1. 1Open Home.
  2. 2Tap the Run tile, or tap GO and choose Run.
  3. 3Check that GPS is ready, then start.
  4. 4When you are done, finish and wait for Run saved.
Can I walk or ride instead of run?Yes. Pick Walk or Ride before you start so Choose The Run checks and labels the activity correctly.

A walk or ride can be saved like a run. Whether it scores in a particular challenge depends on that challenge's rules, which are shown before you join.

Do this

  1. 1Open Home or GO.
  2. 2Choose Walk or Ride.
  3. 3Read the destination or challenge summary before starting.
  4. 4Record and finish normally.
I want to save my exercise but not compete. Can I?Yes. Choose My history only when Choose The Run asks where the activity should count.

This keeps the activity in your personal history without choosing a challenge. It is the simplest choice when you only want a record of what you did.

Do this

  1. 1Start a free activity or training session.
  2. 2When asked where it counts, choose My history only.
  3. 3Finish the activity as usual.
  4. 4Confirm that the saved message appears.
What should I check before my first activity?Choose the right activity, allow location access, wait for GPS, and use a safe route.

The phone needs a clear enough GPS signal to measure where you went. Traffic, weather, terrain, and local rules always matter more than points or territory.

Do this

  1. 1Choose Run, Walk, or Ride.
  2. 2Allow location access while using Choose The Run.
  3. 3Wait until the recorder says GPS is ready.
  4. 4Keep the app open while recording.
  5. 5Stop if continuing would be unsafe.
What is the difference between pause, resume, and finish?Pause stops counting for a moment, Resume continues the same activity, and Finish saves and ends it.

Use Pause for a short interruption. Use Finish only when the whole activity is over. Read the visible state before tapping while you are moving.

Do this

  1. 1Tap Pause when you need to stop briefly.
  2. 2Tap Resume when you are moving again.
  3. 3Tap Finish when the activity is completely over.
  4. 4Confirm the save message before closing Choose The Run.
How do I know my activity is safely saved?Wait for Run saved or Saved - will sync. Both mean the run is stored on your phone.

Choose The Run saves a completed activity on the device before trying the internet. A failed upload should not erase the run; it moves to the waiting-to-sync list instead.

Do this

  1. 1Finish the activity.
  2. 2Wait for the saved confirmation.
  3. 3If it says it will sync, leave the item on the phone.
  4. 4Open Settings > Waiting to sync whenever you want to check it.
Can I record with no signal or internet?Yes. Keep Choose The Run open while recording; the finished activity is saved on the phone and uploads later.

GPS and the internet are different. Your phone can often record GPS in a dead zone even when it cannot upload. Maps or online details may be limited until a connection returns.

Do this

  1. 1Start while Choose The Run is open.
  2. 2Record normally.
  3. 3Finish and wait for the saved message.
  4. 4Reconnect later and use Sync now if needed.
Can I lock my phone or close Choose The Run during a run?Keep Choose The Run open in the foreground for dependable recording.

Choose The Run keeps the screen awake during recording because background location is not dependable in every build and permission setup. You can lower screen brightness if that is safe and comfortable.

Do this

  1. 1Start the activity with Choose The Run open.
  2. 2Leave the recorder on screen.
  3. 3Do not force-close the app.
  4. 4Finish inside Choose The Run.
GPS is not ready or my distance looks wrong. What should I do?Move outdoors, allow location access, wait for a steady signal, and keep Choose The Run open.

Tall buildings, heavy tree cover, tunnels, battery restrictions, and starting indoors can make phone GPS jump or arrive late.

Do this

  1. 1Go to an open outdoor area.
  2. 2Check that Choose The Run has location permission.
  3. 3Turn off battery restrictions for Choose The Run if your phone applies them.
  4. 4Wait before starting.
  5. 5If the problem continues, restart the app and contact support with the phone model and time.
The app closed during my activity. Can I get it back?Open Home and look for the interrupted-recording card before starting another activity.

Choose The Run can surface an unfinished local recording so you can recover it or discard it. Discard only when you are sure you do not need those unsaved GPS points.

Do this

  1. 1Reopen Choose The Run.
  2. 2On Home, find the interrupted-recording message.
  3. 3Choose Recover to continue the saved path.
  4. 4Choose Discard only if you accept that it cannot be recovered afterward.
My activity says Waiting to sync. Is it lost? No. It is saved on this phone and waiting for a working connection.

Choose The Run retries when the app opens and when the network becomes reachable. You can also ask it to try now. Do not delete the local item while you still want the run.

Do this

  1. 1Connect to a stable network.
  2. 2Open Settings > Waiting to sync.
  3. 3Tap Sync now.
  4. 4If it still fails, keep it saved and contact support with the date and time.
What happens if I delete a run that has not synced? That local copy is the only safe copy, so deleting it can make the run unrecoverable.

A waiting-to-sync run has not reached the server yet. Keep it unless you intentionally want to throw it away, and read the confirmation carefully.

Do this

  1. 1Try Sync now first.
  2. 2Keep the item if you still want the activity.
  3. 3Delete only after the warning makes sense to you.
Can other people see the exact route I ran?Posts never include your recorded line. Each run also saves a route - the line itself - which stays private until you share it.

A shared post shows your story, figures, and any claimed area - never the line you traveled. But each run you record with GPS also saves a route: the exact line, including where it starts, often your own door. That route is private until you choose Friends or Public on the route itself, and sharing the route publishes the line. Still avoid putting sensitive details in photos or captions.

Do this

  1. 1Review the audience before sharing a post.
  2. 2Open your routes to see the line each run saved; every route stays private until you share it.
  3. 3Remember that a claimed shape can still suggest a general place.
  4. 4Do not upload photos that reveal a home, school, or other sensitive location.
What is Live presence, and is it on by default? It is off by default. If you turn it on, selected people see one approximate dot only while you record.

The dot is coarse, not your route. The first two minutes are hidden, and the dot disappears when recording stops. You choose Friends or Challenge as the audience and choose how approximate the dot is.

Do this

  1. 1Open Settings > Live presence.
  2. 2Read the audience and approximate-area choices.
  3. 3Enable it only if you want it.
  4. 4Check the current setting before a run when location privacy matters.
Do I have to post or share after every activity? No - but every saved run already has an audience. Skipping the share step keeps your default; set a run to Private to keep it only yours.

There is no separate post: the feed shows saved runs to the people each run's audience allows. A run saves with your standing default - Friends for a personal or private challenge, Public for an open one, or whatever default you have set - even when you skip the share step. You can change any run's audience later on its own screen, including to Private.

Do this

  1. 1Finish and wait for the saved message.
  2. 2Use Not now or skip the share step to keep your default audience.
  3. 3To keep a run to yourself, set it to Private - on the share step or later on the run's own screen.
What should I avoid putting in an activity photo?Do not show private addresses, children, documents, keys, or anything that reveals a sensitive location.

Photos can travel beyond the audience you expected if someone obtains or copies a direct link. Treat every uploaded photo as something another person might save.

Do this

  1. 1Check the background before uploading.
  2. 2Crop out addresses, screens, and personal documents.
  3. 3Ask other people before posting their image.
  4. 4Remove the photo if you are unsure.
I just want a plan that tells me what to do. Where do I start?Open Train, choose a plan, read week one, and use Next run when you are ready.

A programme breaks a goal into sessions. The session title is the instruction, and the recorder guides you through warm-up, effort blocks, and cool-down when the plan includes them.

Do this

  1. 1Open Train.
  2. 2Choose a programme that matches your current level and goal.
  3. 3Read the first week's sessions and safety notes.
  4. 4Enroll, then tap Next run.
How do I hear instructions during a training session?Turn on the needed audio cues, raise media volume, and use headphones when it is safe.

Audio can announce parts of the workout, distance, pace, a pacer, or story characters. The exact choices depend on the session and your Audio cues settings.

Do this

  1. 1Open Settings > Audio cues.
  2. 2Choose the cues and voice you want.
  3. 3Check media volume and silent-mode behavior before leaving.
  4. 4Try a short preview or first session in a safe place.
Why can I not hear the coach, pacer, or story?Check Audio cues, media volume, the phone's sound settings, and whether the correct run mode is selected.

Coach, pacer, and story actors are different audio modes. A story cast can replace ordinary coaching on purpose, so hearing one instead of another may be the session design.

Do this

  1. 1Open Settings > Audio cues and confirm the desired options.
  2. 2Raise media volume and check connected headphones.
  3. 3Check whether the run uses Coach, Pacer, Actors, or None.
  4. 4Restart the session setup if audio still does not initialize, then contact support.
What is the difference between a pacer and a zombie chase?A pacer gives you a target to follow; a zombie is a game character that tries to catch you.

Both can react to the gap between you and a moving target, but their purpose and audio are different. Start with a plain pacer if you want calm pace help.

Do this

  1. 1Open run options before starting.
  2. 2Choose Pacer for a target pace.
  3. 3Choose a zombie or chase session only if you want the game pressure.
  4. 4Set a safe, realistic effort for your ability.
What is a story run?It is a training session with an audio episode that unfolds while you move.

Characters and scenes play at planned moments in the workout. The story is entertainment layered onto the session; you still choose a safe route and control your effort.

Do this

  1. 1Open Train and find a story or season.
  2. 2Read the episode length and activity plan.
  3. 3Use headphones only when you can still hear your surroundings.
  4. 4Start the episode and follow the visible workout cues.
What is the difference between following someone and being friends?Following is one-way. Friends means you follow each other.

A person can follow you without you following them back. Privacy and challenge access can still have separate rules, so friendship does not make every activity public.

Do this

  1. 1Open the person's profile.
  2. 2Read the relationship state.
  3. 3Use Follow or Unfollow intentionally.
  4. 4Review sharing and Live presence separately.
How do I handle an unsafe, abusive, or fake account or post?Email support with the username and what you saw, and the team will review it.

Reports are handled by a person. Send the username, the kind of content and roughly when you saw it, and the team will review it. Never include your password. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.

Do this

  1. 1Save a screenshot if it is safe and does not expose extra private information.
  2. 2Email support@choosetherun.com with the username, content type, and approximate time.
  3. 3Use your device controls to limit contact while support reviews the report.
  4. 4Contact local emergency services if someone is in immediate danger.
Can I make starting a run quicker?Yes. Turn on Quick start in Settings to use the shorter run setup.

Quick start is a saved device preference. It shortens setup without enabling unrelated game features or changing their saved preferences.

Do this

  1. 1Open Me, then Settings.
  2. 2Turn on Quick start.
  3. 3Return Home and start a run.
  4. 4Turn it off any time you want the full setup again.
How can I make words easier to read?Increase text size in your phone's accessibility settings; Choose The Run is designed to follow the device setting.

Larger text can make some pages longer, which is normal. Scroll to see the rest. Simple Mode can reduce how much information appears at once.

Do this

  1. 1Open the phone's Display or Accessibility settings.
  2. 2Increase text size to a comfortable level.
  3. 3Reopen Choose The Run and check Home, GO, and Settings.
  4. 4Turn on Simple Mode if the amount of information still feels heavy.
I do not understand an icon or swipe. What should I do?Do not guess during a run. Pause safely, read the screen-reader label if available, or open this Help page.

A hidden gesture should be a shortcut, not the only way to do something. On a recorder, the current state and visible words matter more than the symbol alone.

Do this

  1. 1Stop moving somewhere safe.
  2. 2Look for a visible labeled row or button that does the same job.
  3. 3Use your phone's screen reader to hear control names if helpful.
  4. 4Search Help using the result you want, such as finish or share.
How do I switch between kilometres and miles?Open Settings > Units and choose Kilometres or Miles.

The unit changes how distances and areas are displayed. It does not change the ground you covered or give a scoring advantage.

Do this

  1. 1Open Me > Settings.
  2. 2Tap Units.
  3. 3Choose Kilometres or Miles.
  4. 4Return to the activity or challenge.
Can I bring in a workout recorded by Apple Health or Health Connect?Yes, from Settings > Import past runs, when your phone and permissions support it.

Imported workouts go through validation. A workout without a usable GPS trace can still be added to your history, but it cannot supply a route map.

Do this

  1. 1Open Settings > Import past runs.
  2. 2Allow the health permission you are comfortable sharing.
  3. 3Choose eligible workouts.
  4. 4Check the imported result and any challenge rule.
What safety rules matter while I play?Traffic, weather, terrain, property rules, and your body always come before the game.

Do not enter restricted or unsafe places to follow a route, reach a story point, or beat a pacer. Choose The Run is not an emergency service.

Do this

  1. 1Plan a route you are allowed to use.
  2. 2Keep enough hearing and attention for your surroundings.
  3. 3Stop if conditions or your health change.
  4. 4Contact local emergency services if someone is in danger.
Can anyone of any age make an account? No. Choose The Run accounts are for people age 13 or older who can legally agree to the terms.

Choose The Run is not directed to children under 13. Families should also use age-appropriate supervision, safe routes, and the privacy settings that fit them.

Do this

  1. 1Read the current Terms and Privacy Policy.
  2. 2Do not create an account for a child under 13.
  3. 3Contact support if you believe a child under 13 supplied personal information.
I cannot sign in. What should I try?Check the email address and password, then contact support if you still cannot get in. Never send your password.

Most sign-in problems are a mistyped address, a stray space, or a dropped connection. Check those first. If you still cannot get in, contact support from the address on the account and the team will help you recover it — never include your password in the message.

Do this

  1. 1Check for typing mistakes and extra spaces.
  2. 2Confirm the phone has a working connection.
  3. 3Open Support from the sign-in screen or Settings.
  4. 4Email support@choosetherun.com from the account address when possible, without including your password.
How do I delete my account and data?Open ME, scroll to the bottom and choose Delete account. The app shows you exactly what happens before anything is done.

Deleting your account is not the same as signing out or uninstalling. Your name, photo, country, any body measurements and your friend connections are deleted, and there is no way back into the account. Routes you published stay on the map with no name attached to them, because deleting those would break the saved routes of other runners who use them. Runs still waiting to upload from this phone have never reached the server, so they cannot be kept — sync them first if you want them.

Do this

  1. 1Open the ME tab and scroll to the bottom.
  2. 2Choose Delete account.
  3. 3Read what happens, then turn on the acknowledgement switch.
  4. 4Choose Delete my account and confirm.
How do I change my name, picture, or location?Open ME. Tap your picture to change it, or use the profile and Settings choices for your name, location, and preferences.

Your profile is your home for the details that make Choose The Run feel like yours. Change only what you are comfortable sharing, then check your privacy choices if you want to limit what other people can see.

Do this

  1. 1Open ME from the bottom navigation.
  2. 2Tap your picture to choose a new one.
  3. 3Use the profile rows to change your name or location.
  4. 4Open Settings for privacy, notifications, and other preferences.
How do I get help from a person?Email support@choosetherun.com. Never send your password or an exact sensitive route unless support specifically needs limited details.

Include your username, phone model, operating-system version, app version, the screen involved, and what happened. For a run, include its approximate date and time.

Do this

  1. 1Write a short description of what you expected and what happened.
  2. 2Add the phone and app details.
  3. 3Attach a screenshot only after checking it for private information.
  4. 4Email support@choosetherun.com.
What is an interactive story? An interactive story reacts to how you run — your pace and the ground you cover change what you hear.

You start it like any other run and the story plays as you move. It is not a recording that ignores you: the story is anchored to the distance you cover and responds to how you are running, so the same story is a different run at a different pace.

Do this

  1. 1Open Stories and choose one.
  2. 2Read the distance it is written for.
  3. 3Start the run and listen — there is nothing to press while you move.
What is the difference between an interactive story and an audiobook? An interactive story reacts to how you run. An audiobook is a recorded book, read straight through.

Both sit on the same shelf and both play while you run. An interactive story is anchored to your distance and pace, so what you hear depends on how you run it. An audiobook plays from beginning to end the same way every time — it does not react.

Do this

  1. 1Look for the word on the card: INTERACTIVE or AUDIOBOOK.
  2. 2Choose INTERACTIVE if you want the run to change the story.
  3. 3Choose AUDIOBOOK if you want to listen straight through.
Why can I not hear my coach during a story?Nothing is wrong. During a story, only the story speaks — a beep over a cliffhanger would spoil the moment.

This is deliberate. On a story run the cast has the run to itself: no coach reading out your splits, no pacer, and no kilometre beep. A story is written with dramatic timing, and an interruption lands in the middle of it. If you want your splits read to you, choose a run that is not a story — or listen to an audiobook, where you can turn the coach on.

Do this

  1. 1Check the run you started is a story.
  2. 2If you want coaching, start a training or free run instead.
  3. 3On an audiobook, turn the coach on from the book page.
Will anything interrupt the story?Only two things: a fuelling reminder, and a cue you recorded yourself. Both wait for a gap rather than talking over a line.

A story run is the one most likely to be long, and going hours without eating or drinking is a real risk — so a fuelling reminder is allowed through. A cue you recorded in your own voice, at a mark you chose, is allowed for the same reason: you set it before the run, and it arrives when you said it should. Neither talks over the cast; they wait for a pause.

Do this

  1. 1Set fuelling reminders before the run if you want them.
  2. 2Record your own cues from My cues.
  3. 3Expect both to arrive in a gap, not over a line.
Do I need a signal to run a story? No. The audio is already inside the app, so a story cannot go quiet because you lost signal.

Stories and their voices ship with the app rather than downloading when you press start. That is deliberate: a run happens where it happens, and a story that stopped halfway up a hill because the signal did would be worse than no story at all. Run it in a dead zone, on a plane, or with data switched off.

Do this

  1. 1Start the story as normal.
  2. 2Run wherever you like — no connection is needed for the audio.
  3. 3Reconnect afterwards so the run uploads.
Can I hear the whole story on a short run?You get a version cut for the distance you are running — never the same story stretched thinner.

A story is written for a distance, and shorter runs get a version cut to fit or an ending that is honest about being one. What does not happen is the same story spread out with longer gaps: that would mean more silence rather than more story. Run a longer distance and you get more of it, not the same amount slower.

Do this

  1. 1Check the distance on the story card.
  2. 2Pick the distance you actually want to run.
  3. 3Run it again at a longer distance to hear more.
Why does it say I only heard one chapter?Chapters are marked when you actually hear them. If the app is not certain, it marks fewer rather than more.

Marking a chapter you have not heard cannot be undone — you would open the story next time already past something you never listened to. Marking too few can always be fixed by running again. So when it is not certain, the app marks less and protects the story. Run it again and the chapters you hear get marked.

Do this

  1. 1Check which chapters are marked on the story page.
  2. 2Run the story again to hear and mark the rest.
  3. 3Longer runs generally play more chapters.
Can I hear my splits during an audiobook?Yes. Turn the coach on from the book page — it starts off, so a book plays alone unless you ask.

An audiobook is hours of continuous reading, and a short readout between paragraphs is close to what most listeners want on a long run — better than looking at your phone on the one kind of run where the point is not having to. It is off unless you turn it on. A pacer and a pursuer stay out either way: those are company, and company over someone's reading is a different thing entirely.

Do this

  1. 1Open the book page.
  2. 2Turn the coach on before you start.
  3. 3Turn it off any time you want the book alone.
What does IMPORTED mean on a book?It says where the book came from. Nothing else.

An imported book is still an audiobook and plays exactly the same way. The word is there so you can tell where a title came from — it is not a mark of quality and it does not change what you can do with it.

Do this

  1. 1Open the book as normal.
  2. 2Expect the same player and the same controls.
What do FREE, DEMO and PACK mean on a story?FREE opens now. DEMO is a taste of a longer story. PACK is a set of stories that belong together.

The word on a card tells you what kind of thing you are looking at. FREE means you can start it straight away. DEMO means it is a part of something longer, so it will end sooner than a full story. PACK means it belongs to a set rather than standing alone.

Do this

  1. 1Look at the word on the story card.
  2. 2Start anything marked FREE whenever you like.
  3. 3Expect a DEMO to end earlier than a full story.
Why is a story locked for me?Some stories are not open to every account. The shelf shows what you can start now.

Whether a story is open is decided by the server for your account, not by the app guessing. If one shows as locked, it is not available to you at the moment — anything without that mark can be started right away. Sponsored stories can also open and close on a schedule set by the sponsor.

Do this

  1. 1Start any story that is not marked as locked.
  2. 2Check back later — availability can change.
  3. 3Contact support if you believe a story should be open to you.
What is a race here?A real event in the world — a name, a distance, a day and a place. It is not a competition against other people in the app.

A race is an actual event: a named race, its edition, the distance, the date and where it is held. Nobody in the app is racing you. It is there so you can find an event, see what it involves, and prepare for it.

Do this

  1. 1Open Races and browse or search.
  2. 2Use Around me to sort by what is nearest.
  3. 3Open a race to see its date, distance and place.
What is the difference between a race and a course?A course is a place. A race is a date.

A course is a route you can run whenever you like — it exists on the map and it waits for you. A race is an event happening on a particular day in a particular place. A race may have a course; a course does not need a race.

Do this

  1. 1Open Routes to find a course you can run any time.
  2. 2Open Races to find an event on a date.
What is the global challenge, and did I join it?Standing weekly and monthly boards. Every run you record counts automatically — there is no join step.

The global challenge is a set of community boards that run all the time. You are already in them. Every validated run credits its board on its own, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to switch on.

Do this

  1. 1Open the bar and swipe to the second page.
  2. 2Tap RANKS.
  3. 3Choose WEEKLY or MONTHLY at the top.
  4. 4Pick WALK, RUN or CYCLE — each is its own competition.
Why am I not on the pace board?Pace boards need a few runs first — three in a week, fifteen in a month — and each must be at least 1 km.

Distance boards count every run. Pace boards wait until you have enough runs in the period to be a fair average, so one very fast short run cannot top the board. Runs under 1 km do not count toward it.

Do this

  1. 1Record your usual runs — nothing extra is needed.
  2. 2The board says how many more runs you need.
  3. 3Once you qualify, your row appears with everyone else's.
Can other people see my name on the boards? No, unless you turn it on. Names are masked by default.

Board names are hidden unless you choose to show yours. You can change it at any time from the settings mark on the ranks page, and your own row is always marked for you either way.

Do this

  1. 1Open RANKS.
  2. 2Tap the settings mark, top right.
  3. 3Choose whether your name is shown.
How do I earn badges?By running. Badges light up on their own when you meet the condition — tap any badge to read what it needs.

Badges are a record of what you have done, in families. Each one states its own condition, and you meet it by recording runs. There is nothing to claim and nothing to buy.

Do this

  1. 1Open the bar and swipe to the second page.
  2. 2Tap BADGES.
  3. 3Tap any badge to read what lights it.
One of my badges went grey. Did I lose it?No. Nothing is ever taken away — some badges dim when a habit lapses and relight the moment you meet the condition again.

A dimmed badge is not a lost badge. Badges that track an ongoing habit go grey while the habit is paused and come back on their own when you pick it up again. Your total is never reduced.

Do this

  1. 1Open BADGES.
  2. 2Look for the CAN LOSE group — those are the ones that dim.
  3. 3Record a qualifying run and it lights again.
What is Labs?Measure your own outline with the camera, and watch it change over time.

Labs finds your outline in a photo and measures across you — how wide you are at the neck, chest, waist and hips. It uses your height as the ruler, so how far you stand from the camera makes no difference.

Do this

  1. 1Open the bar and swipe to the second page.
  2. 2Tap LABS.
  3. 3Follow the steps to take your first measure.
  4. 4Come back later and take another to see the change.
Where do my Labs photos go?Nowhere. Your photo never leaves this phone — it is measured here.

The photo is measured on the phone and a copy is kept beside your log, visible only to you and only in this app. It is deleted with the entry. If you would rather nothing were kept, turn off “Keep photos with my log” in Labs settings.

Do this

  1. 1Open LABS.
  2. 2Open its settings.
  3. 3Turn off “Keep photos with my log” if you prefer nothing kept.
Does Labs tell me my weight or body fat?No. It does not weigh you — a photo shows your shape, not your mass.

Labs measures how wide you are at several points and tracks how that changes. It cannot weigh you, and anything claiming to do so from a photo is guessing. It is not a medical measurement and is not meant to replace one.
